FIA FT3-1999

FIA FT3-1999 is the most commonly used fuel cell specification within motorsport

Used heavily in GT racing, Touring Cars, Rallying and beyond, it is the lowest cost of the three FIA specifications. It offers huge levels of safety over non FIA specification fuel bladders. Aero Tec Laboratories (ATL) has a number of FIA FT3-1999 specification materials, in fact more than any other manufacturer. These materials vary in properties to suit the differing requirements of our customers.

Manufactured from ballistic Nylon (as opposed to Kevlar), ATL's 810-C material is coated with a synthetic elastomer which is proprietary to ATL. This is the lowest-cost option within our range of fuel cell materials, yet still exhibits lightweight, high strength, high flexibility and is remarkably rugged.

For applications where further weight saving or additional flexibility is required, ATL can offer cells manufactured from a Kevlar/Aramid-based 826-A material. Super-light, ultra-thin (0.7mm), yet very tough, this material carries full FIA FT3-1999 approval and in fact, exceeds the minimum standards of this specification by some margin. Fuel Cells made from 826-A material offer greater fuel capacity within the same size container (compared to 810-C) due to being a thinner material and are easier to install through small access apertures thanks to its flexibility.

Typical uses of an FIA FT3-1999 Fuel Cell

Circuit Racing – GT’s / Touring Cars / CN Cars / Prototypes

ATL's design and manufacturing process means that virtually any shape and size of fuel cell is achievable. ATL's advanced FT3-1999 approved cells have found uses in thousands of applications. The British Touring Car Championship's (BTCC) Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) uses a spec. FIA FT3-1999 fuel cell, and an ATL FIA FT3-1999 fuel cell has been chosen for the majority of GT3 projects, along with most LMP3 cars and a huge number of other club, national or international racing cars.

Because ATL has been manufacturing fuel cells for decades, we may already have designs to suit a fuel cell for your car. If not, we enjoy creating something new for our customers and will take you through the process with ease.

Off Road – R1 / R2 / R5 / Group N / Rally Raid / Autocross

Every customer benefits from our multiple decades of experience when it comes to Fuel Cell design, and we will ensure any Fuel Cell is optimised to its application and environment.

ATL is proud to count dozens of Rally and Rally Raid victories among its successes as a motorsport supplier, including over 10 in the famous Paris-Dakar Rally.

ATL manufactures a standard range of Rally Raid cells in 200L, 300L and 400L capacities. If an 'off the shelf' solution does not meet your requirements, ATL will design and manufacture a custom fuel cells to any size/shape/baffle configuration required.

We also have a standard range of fuel cells to suit common rally cars such as the Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

Historic Racing

ATL supply Fuel Cells for historic or classic vehicles. Whether this is a remake of an ageing ATL bladder, reverse engineering a fuel cell from a bygone era, or sympathetically designing and fitting a bladder into an original container to retain a period look – we do it all.

We understand the need to retain a vehicles authenticity, but we are also passionate about safety. For this reason we work closely with every customer to ensure that even the most difficult of tanks shapes can be fitted with a safety fuel cell. To make the process easier, we welcome receiving an original tank at the ATL factory to conduct our own measurements ahead of manufacture.

ATL safety fuel cells can be found in the numerous continuation projects undertaken by vehicle manufacturers, who know that only ATL safety will do.
