Full Design Service

Utilising Catia CAD software, the ATL design team model every aspect of the world-beating fuel systems and accessories that are produced on a daily basis. Starting with a basic shape that can be provided to ATL as a model (Catia or STEP file), a cavity/container scan (which ATL can provide), drawing, simple sketch or even a physical 3D representation of a shape, the design team will work with our customers to produce a system that fits perfectly with the end use requirement.

Our collaborative design approach offers all customers the opportunity to benefit from many decades of fuel system experience in order to optimise their system ahead of manufacture.

Given a shape and requirements for filling, pump specification etc, ATL can design every last nut and bolt. If a design is already mature before it comes to ATL, we can simply offer as much support is required to complete the system design.

Fabrication

Fabrication

To ensure the highest level of quality, and industry-leading reactivity, ATL have in-house state of the art fabrication capabilities. Working closely with the ATL design team, our highly skilled fabricators produce custom fuel tanks, containers and other equipment for use in and around fuel systems.

With expectations for the quality of finish extremely high due to the vehicles in which they are used, our fabricators produce items which are not only of a high quality but visually stunning too.

Our on-site fabrication capability means ATL has the ability to create the ultimate in integrated fuel system solutions, and also gives ATL the flexibility to provide our world-beating systems in all manner of materials. Whilst we promote the benefits of utilising flexible fuel bladders in most situations, there are some situations where an ATL fabricated tank is the perfect solution, such as the rugged two-part stainless steel tanks provided to the MOD for the Foxhound. As with all of our fuel systems, we integrate our light weighting and performance enhancements to our fabricated tanks.

Machining

Machining

To ensure absolute flexibility and quality control over our low volume production, ATL has in-house machining and turning capabilities. These capabilities allow fast-turnaround times for custom or prototype parts which would otherwise be difficult to obtain in the timescale required. It also allows ATL to provide for last minute changes or modifications which are known to happen from time-to-time.

For higher volume parts ATL use a trusted and carefully chosen group of external suppliers, thereby offering savings to the customer.

Flexible Bladder Manufacturing

Flexible Bladder Manufacturing

ATL has been designing and manufacturing flexible bladders across a multitude of industries for almost 50 years. Utilising an array of over 100 proprietary materials, ATL can produce custom designed bladders to safely store fuel, oil or water and has further spread its technologies into compensators, accumulators, potable water vessels, self-healing ballistic tanks, bulk storage bladders and scores of similar endeavours.

There is no job too big or too small - size is not an issue. We are happy to manufacture a bladder as small as 10ml, or as large as 200,000 litres.

Equally, a bladder can be as complex as you require thanks to the flexibility of our technology and its unique capabilities.

Rotational Moulding

Rotational Moulding

Moulded from a special blend of material that is unique to ATL, products are designed to exhibit incredible strength and durability, as well as minimal weight. These polymer vessels meet FIA/FT3 and MVSS-301 Specifications and feature extremely low permeation rates.

ATL has invested in new tooling techniques which vastly reduce the initial outlay and the resulting payback period. Used for decades in National and International motorsport, the popular and low cost Saver Cell range has been well received in the Automotive, Aviation, Marine and Defence industries.

It is not simply fuel tanks that this technology can be used for. ATL have successfully created a wide range of products to suit all manner of liquid containment. The versatile nature of the ATL moulded product means that complex shapes can be created. The products can also include features such as integral sumps, threaded inserts, baffles, metallic flanges, bosses, hose attachment nipples and mounting brackets.

The lead time for brand new products, which are designed in-house by expert ATL staff, can be a matter of weeks. Once tooling has been created new products can be called-off at short notice, further enhancing the attractiveness of the latest ATL capability.

Research & Development

Research & Development

The technology used by ATL is constantly evolving, with research and development of both existing and new technologies taking place on a daily basis.

Performance and safety are both of paramount importance to ATL, as is ensuring we offer products which cannot be beaten. We, therefore, strive for continual improvement, which can often involve working closely with our customers and partners.

We are particularly excited about developing new technologies or adapting our current offerings for a new purpose, therefore we welcome the challenge of doing so.

If it is not immediately clear that ATL technology will fit your requirement exactly, but our advanced design and construction methods would seem to be suitable, get in touch to speak about how we can develop what you need.

Production Engineering

Production Engineering

ATL cater for a wide range of production runs, from a single prototype to serial production into the thousands.

Efficiency, repeatability, reliability, lead times and cost control are all of paramount importance. Our production engineers, with deep knowledge of ATL technologies and manufacturing processes, work tirelessly with the ATL design department to ensure an optimised solution for the project scope.

Customised tooling and manufacturing processes are considered and indeed implemented for every one of ATL’s projects.

Field Support

Field Support

There is no substitute for getting hands on in order to make sure an optimal solution is provided, and also to ensure that the real-world use and performance of that solution is as expected.

ATL design engineers are on-hand to work closely with our customers, ensuring the maximum benefit from our many decades of system design, installation and integration experience is received.

We appreciate that solutions that can be second nature to our team, may not be so forthcoming to our customers. Therefore whether it is to support ATL products operating in the field, or a vehicle or environment inspection in preparation of supplying a quotation, ATL is pleased to help.

Turn-Key Solutions

Turn-Key Solutions

ATL can take hassle out of the supply chain by designing and manufacturing a complete system that is ready to be installed into a vehicle.

For example, where a vehicle is being manufactured on a production line, ATL can supply a fuel bladder, comprising all internal hardware, in a composite box ready to be mounted. This allows fast installation, one assembly number, and a far more efficient purchase.

The full assemblies can be delivered just-in-time, one at a time or in batches to suit your manufacturing schedule. These assemblies will be fully quality assured and specific qualification tests can be defined by the customer to remove the requirement further downstream.

Reverse Engineered Solutions

Reverse Engineered Solutions

Where an existing bladder is out of date or no longer serviceable, ATL can reverse engineer an original part. This can be in any industry and the part can be from any supplier.

This is particularly useful when restoring an historic vehicle for which original designs are no longer available. Simply send the original bladder or container to ATL will do the rest.

For designs which require verification of fit prior to manufacture, ATL can supply a 3D mock-up of the bladder to trial fit in the vehicle. For some older vehicles where it cannot be guaranteed that all chassis were the same, this is a simple way of ensuring the bladder is right first time.

Composite & Fabricated Containment Vessels

Composite & Fabricated Containment Vessels

ATL design manufacture and supply containment vessels to complement our bladder systems, or for use or independently.

When supplied with an ATL bladder, these containment vessels can be manufactured from aluminium or carbon composites and they are designed to suit the regulations for the championship or purpose for which they are intended to be used. Relaying on ATL to supply the container simplifies the design and purchasing process, giving you more time to focus on gaining performance elsewhere.

Whether a single prototype or serial production, ATL offer help and advice to ensure the final product exceeds expectations.
